Sand Bathing in Merzouga Desert
Sand bathing is an old therapy Moroccans practiced for centuries in the Merzouga Sahara Dunes nearby Tafilalet. Here every summer thousands of locals originating from the Oasis and living in other cities come for its health benefits. Furthermore, it becomes well known amongst travelers visiting Morocco. It is strongly believed it helps to get rid of toxins through sweating to reduce the pain of rheumatism and articulation problems and activate the blood circulation. This phenomenon happens every year in mid-summer when the heat is at its peak especially mid-July when the sand is both hot on the surface and purely dry underground. First, you will be covered in Sand by a local who will supply your water to stay hydrated. and remains close to serve you for any needs. Second, you will be wrapped in a blanket and taken to a shaded tent to rest. Last, the local at your disposal will serve your herbal teas, water, or juice. All these to help the body convert to the normal temperature.
